Contemporary addition
Dawson Street, Cooks Hill
Typical of its era, the original cottage had been modified over time, with kitchen and bathroom additions that cut the home off from its outdoor space. We stripped those back and inserted a generous glazed link — a clear break between old and new that also floods the deep plan with light.
A modest first-floor master suite sits within a black-clad form above a recycled-brick base, screened for privacy to and from the neighbours. Below, a living room with full-width bifold doors opens onto a courtyard where a clad carport doubles as an entertaining pergola, opening to the rear lane so gatherings can spill outside.
