Heritage terrace addition
Boatmans Row, Newcastle East
Boatmans Row is a listed row of end-terraces within the Newcastle East Heritage Conservation Area — a setting where even a small addition is scrutinised against its neighbours. The brief was modest, but the heritage constraints were not.
The design keeps the new work deliberately simple, using a roof form that aligns with and references the verandah roofs of the neighbouring homes so the addition sits quietly within the row. It's the kind of careful, heritage-led work — done with the right documentation — that earns approval in one of Newcastle's most sensitive precincts.
